The USDA has recently introduced the new MyPlate diagram, which is slated to replace the, apparently, archaic Food Pyramid. While it is certainly something that will take some getting used to, this design it does appear to be much easier to understand what the average American diet should be. Not surprisingly it is very similar to the old food pyramid, but there are some changes.
First of all, if you recall, the base of the food pyramid used to be the section that was breads, gr

I have known Tricia and Chuck for many years. In a recent conversation it was mentioned that a lot of kids hang our at their new house. There is a pool and a lake and mounds of toys. Basically, it is kid paradise. So, we arranged for me to stop by and take pictures of some of the kids that were running around. Tricia and Chuck's two sons were pretty tired from a full day in the pool and trying to catch a particularly large

Cawl
Check out these recipes for kids to make images:
Cawl
Of all the dishes in the world, none I would rather have on a winter day than the humble cawl.
It is the comfort food of the celtic gods.
The great feature of cawl is that no one recipe defines cawl. The recipe is basically how your mother or grandmother made it when you were a kid.
If my case, it was the way dad made it.
I cannot tell you my secret recipe since It is a closely guarded family secret.

Old Fashioned Sour Cream Cookies
Sour cream cookies sound a little bland to you? Well that depends on what you look for in a cookie and what tips the scale and makes it to your "favorites" list. Me? I usually go for crunch, a little color, and flavor I can taste. Sounds like these cookies shouldn't be on my list of favs but, they are! In fact they are one of my oldest and most favorite cookie. Here's why: they are soft as in cake-like, sweet but not over the top, the flavors are clean, simple
Blackberry Slump
Have you ever heard of a dessert called a slump? The Joy of Cooking defines a slump as "steamed fruit topped with dumplings". I first encountered the idea of a slump in a cookbook about the cooking of Newport, Rhode Island, in the first chapter on colonial cooking. Apparently, this dessert goes back to colonial days. It's synonymous with a "grunt", and which word you use, slump or grunt, depends on the locale. In Rhode Island, slump is used. In Massachusetts, grunt is more common.
